✍ Do you know that USA's Qualcomm has more job openings in India than in the USA? Yes! Of 1386 job openings, 739 (53.3%) are in India, and only 293 (21.1%) are in the USA. Job openings in China are only 49 (5%) of the total.
This clearly shows Qualcomm is betting heavily on India and its market.
Qualcomm has appointed its SVP Savi Soin as Qualcomm India's President in Aug 2023. (MNCs in the semiconductor space don't usually have an SVP as a region's President unless the region is too important a market for the company.)
Qualcomm has big design centers in Hyderabad and Bangalore. In March 2024, Qualcomm opened a new design center in Chennai to design and test wireless connectivity solutions. (CEO Cristiano Amon showed up in traditional Indian attire to this event showing his commitment to India.)
Note: Qualcomm has more engineering talent in India than anywhere else.
Currently, many Qualcomm chips are end-end designed in India, some through partnerships with global teams in the USA, etc. So, India is an important piece of all semiconductor chips Qualcomm ships globally.
Qualcomm is also working with Indian partners to set up semiconductor fabs in India. Talks with TATA and others are ongoing. Qualcomm will be the tech partner and provide chip volume for these fabs.
At the "Snapdragon for India” event in New Delhi this month, Qualcomm announced the launch of the "Snapdragon 4G Gen 2 chipset" for India. This new processor from Qualcomm has the potential to reduce the 5G smartphone prices to below INR 8000 (<$100) in India.
In FWA Space, India is a big market for Qualcomm riding on Wi-Fi 6. Qualcomm's AI PCs are also being launched in India soon. Qualcomm will also offer Rs 41,000 worth of 5G training programs for free in India.
All these show us Qualcomm is seriously working to make and sell in India.
